Under the Law of Energy, following are the activities relating to natural gas:
- natural gas trade;
- natural gas transport;
- natural gas transport system management;
- natural gas distribution;
- natural gas supply; and
- natural gas final resort supply.
The activities listed above can be implemented by domestic or foreign entities based on licences issued by the Energy Regulatory Commission. In compliance with the obligations to implement energy-relating activities, which are incurred from their licences, the licenced entities also have the obligation to submit monthly and annual reports on their operations to the Energy Regulatory Commission.
GA-MA AD – Skopje, the licence holder for implementation of the energy-relating activities of natural gas transport and natural gas transport system management is obliged to provide a secure and safe operation of the natural gas transport system, which is accomplished by way of planning, construction and maintenance of natural gas pipelines, measuring and regulation stations, and other equipment, and also by way of watchful management and supervision of the transport network and control of all operations in the buffer zone near the natural gas pipeline.
TIRZ DIREKCIJA, the licence holder for implementation of energy-relating activities of natural gas distribution, natural gas distribution system management and natural gas supply to tariff-based consumers connected to the natural gas distribution system is obliged to provide the development, maintenance and secure and safe functioning of the natural gas distribution system for a secure, safe and quality delivery of natural gas to the consumers.
JP KUMANOVO GAS – Kumanovo, the licence holder for implementation of energy-relating activities of natural gas distribution and natural gas supply to tariff-based consumers connected to the natural gas distribution system is obliged to provide secure and safe system operation by way of adequate planning, construction and maintenance of the system and secure, safe and quality delivery of natural gas to the consumers.
In the Republic of North Macedonia the natural gas market has not yet been fully liberalised. The supply to tariff-based consumers connected to the natural gas transport system in 2011 was carried out by the natural gas supplier to tariff-based consumers connected to the natural gas transport system (MAKPETROL PROM-GAS DOOEL – Skopje).
Qualified consumers of natural gas in the Republic of North Macedonia include: TOPLIFIKACIJA AD – Skopje, TE-TO AD – Skopje, and also KOGEL SEVER DOO – Skopje and MAKSTEEL AD – Skopje, who have acquired the qualified consumer status in 2011.
